Education & Outreach Associate
Alicia Christensen is an Education and Outreach Associate at CIRES. She currently manages the Research Experience for Community College Students (RECCS) program and supports CLEAN efforts.  She is passionate about connecting students from under-served communities with the natural world.  Before joining CIRES, Alicia worked as an outreach manager, coordinator, and educator in a zoo and two aquariums, a pre-college program through Oregon State University, the Ocean Sciences Bowl, a national park, and marine institute.  In these roles she facilitated teacher professional development and college courses in science communication.  Alicia holds a M.S. in Marine Resource Management, focused in marine education.

She will be presenting on Ways of Knowing About the Natural World with Autumn Bernhardt, attorney and Native scholar:
Explore how Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) represents the intersection of law, science, and Indigenous culture, and how TEK is used for environmental stewardship. Workshop attendees will discuss how TEK relates to Western Science, and consider the implications for teaching about the natural world in a way that is inclusive of all learners.
