What does Ethnic Studies have to do with Climate Justice? Many people hear Ethnic Studies and think only of History. However, Ethnic Studies Pedagogy can be infused across the curriculum, especially in the elementary classroom, to center marginalized narratives, and conceptualize new possibilities. In this workshop, we will take a look at the Ethnic Studies Guiding Principles: cultivate, celebrate, center, critique, challenge, connect and conceptualize and how to apply these principles in the elementary classroom. Examples of middle and high school contexts will be provided as well. We will also take a look at how these principles can guide us towards elevating historically marginalized narratives, and deepen our understanding of Climate Justice.
